I have been using Gowalla now for the better part of the past year. I love it and I think it's an excellent way to let the people in your town know of good venues: restaurants, theatres, coffee shops, and generally good places to hang, to enjoy. The location based aspect of this is crucial because you can link straight to a google maps URL to see exactly where the venue is in relationship to your neighborhood.
